Osmosis Water Filter

Set up your own nano reef can be quite simple and is almost the same as a traditionally sized reef. This article will go over the basics of creating a nano reef, and the equipment necessary. This article serves as a guide only, and not a full in depth step by step method.
To start, you must select the aquarium, you want to use. Three good starting sizes are standard 10 gallon, 15 gallon or 20 gallon aquariums. Then you must decide whether the lighting you want. Power Compact Retrofit kits and canopies are highly recommended. These power compact lamps will give your nano reef with lots of light to many types of corals as Xenia's and button polyps. For the heater, we highly recommend using a 50w or 75w Ebo Jager brand water heater, as users of these have consistently been successful in such small aquariums. Finally, you need a little Power Head Pump for circulation and a suitable filter. I have found Aquarium System's Mini-Jet pumps to be quiet and reliable, but all others in a similar size pumps will work fine.
For your main filtration, we recommend using an all natural method. Good quality live rock and live sand is the key to a successful system. You need at least a pound of live rock per gallon, and about one-half pounds of live sand per gallon. More information about this can be found at target = "_blank" rel = "nofollow"> www.ocreef.com
When looking for a place to put your nano reef, you will want to keep a few things in mind. The idea should be placed on a flat, sturdy surface that can support approximately 70-250 pounds depending on the size of the tank. For a beginner, it is recommended to place the tank in a high traffic area, so it will be under constant surveillance, especially in the beginning, while the idea is still stabilizing.
When the time comes to to fill with water, you need good de-chlorinated water, it is recommended to use reverse osmosis water, you can find RO water from most local pet fish stores. You will also need to have good quality synthetic grated salt and density meter (hydrometer is more commonly used). Hydrometers can be purchased for under $ 10 and will provide a basic reading of density (salt concentration in ppm's parts per million).
A more expensive Refractometer recommended for very accurate measurements, if money permits ie. Continue to fill tank with water and add salt, according to the manufacturer's instructions to add salt. Then add salt until the specific gravity is 1.023. Place the Power Head, then immediately it will help mix the salt. Now is also time to put in your radiator and get the water temperature to 78 degrees.
When your density has reached the right level and the water is begun to stabilize, (this time will vary depending on your particular set up), you can add the live rock and live sand. Place the live rock in first through of an open pattern, so fish have room to swim through and hide in the rock.
Be as creative as you want during this process, and do not be afraid to go back and change it later. When the stone is how you like it, you can tilt the live sand around the rocks, keep it at a fairly equal thickness throughout the tank. Adding live sand in the water will cloud, but do not worry it will eventually settle and the water becomes clear. After continuing to monitor your water for stabilization.
Once your aquarium is fully completed cycling and your confidence in all water parameters look stable, you will be ready to add a fish and a coral. But do not rush this process, take the time to be rewarded in the saltwater hobby.
One final reminder, because we can not write a book about here is to make sure to do your homework and research the species of fish and corals you are thinking to keep (try to offer them food, they would naturally from the sea). This way you get know how to fit them when you get the little guys to their new home. To learn more about maintaining your Reef Aquarium visit rel = "nofollow"> www.ocreef.com.

Forward Osmosis Water Filtration Systems for Emergency Preparedness
What is the best way to get drinking water - reverse osmosis, filters, or electrical?
I live in Kaohsiung, so we have problems with all lead, calcium, VOCs in the works.
Lead is the pollutant most dangerous here, because it is so readily soluble in water and very dangerous. It would be better to use a carbon reduction of lead block followed by reverse osmosis for lead. This will take care of VOCs as well. For the removal of calcium, have a water softening resin. You can get this in a cartridge, but if the flow is high and / or hardness is high, a water softener regeneration would more profitable. For EDI, which is more effective as a polishing filter, but not necessary with RO at the point of use. The final train would be: 5 micron prefilter carbon reduction lead block water softener (it can go ahead if there is carbon chlorine) Reverse osmosis Good luck!
