Discuss the impact the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright made on modern architecture. Use the examples such as the Robie House, the Francis Little House, and the Guggenheim Museum. What was Wright's approach to architectural space and design? What role did the architect play with respect to the patron? Did Wright's style evolve during the course of his career?

Frank Lloyd Wright was the pompous, self-absorbed father of modern American architecture. He helped ensure the death of the American city in favor of the suburb, all the while suffering a life of personal and professional turbulence. Even in death, the chip he carried on his shoulder in life increases with every book bearing his name that goes straight to the "Bargain Books" section at Barnes and Noble.

It should be mentioned that FLW died in 1959, and did not see the Guggenheim Museum in New York City completed. And since the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain was not completed until 1997, he did not see that one completed either. In fact, he didn't design it at all. The Guggenheim in Bilbao was designed by Frank Gehry, who like Wright was named "Frank" and designed a museum for the Guggenheim foundation. Frank Gehry designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
