When considering retirement venue, some will want to stay in the area they have spent their working lives and thus live closer to friends, family and life and services they were accustomed to. For the more adventurous, who may not have family in the area that they reside, or who simply want to make a change, Summerside contains many of the lifestyle factors that are important to retirees.

Summerside is a small town of around 14-15,000, boasts 2 shopping malls, a completely new hospital and a wellness center with pool, ice arenas, bowling alley, and 2 swimming pools - is situated on the waterfront, with a boardwalk, harbor, the Performance Arts Center, curling complex, Yacht Club, and Spinnakers Landing, an outdoor, waterfront entertainment and shopping area. Summerside's slogan is "the only thing we overlook is the water" and from the previous list, there seems to be it!

In addition to "bricks and mortar" attractions, Summerside also can do claim to be one of Canada's cities safe and a place where the island motto "the gentle island" is not just a slogan, but a lifestyle. Summerside is a place where neighbors know the neighbors take time of day to get to know their fellow citizens.

But the retiree thinking of coming to Summerside to use this time of their lives when they have more time to peruse other interests than career, it is important that they have income to make their dreams come true. Your retirement income can proceed in Summerside!

The main difference between living in Summerside, if you move from one major city, is the difference in property values. Summerside home would easily be half or less of the value of comparable homes in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver. Even if you live in rural Canada, in most cases you will be able to sell your property and purchase retirement here in Summerside and realize a great difference in cash. Naturally, this cash will add very nicely to your existing retirement financial plan and provide a better lifestyle or a longer retirement picture.

Summerside home categorizes into three distinct groups. There is the heritage homes, large multi-room dwellings were built in the city center of the founders. These were largely capitalists in the early 19th century, and many were part of the then prosperous fox industry. Fox industry is of course long since past (even in the country, there are still many wild foxes) but the homes these titans built still standing proud. Many of these have been converted into apartments used as offices or thriving Bed & Breakfast. You can buy existing single family heritage home for 2 to 3 hundred thousand, many with incredible architecture and potential for income and create a decent stay. These homes in other Canadian or American cities will be priced at 800 thousand up to one million U.S. dollars.

At the other extreme of the scale there are many small homes, referred to as "starter home", but could equally well be retirement properties. These are priced under 100 thousand U.S. dollars, and many are in the fifty thousand to sixty thousand range. They are smaller homes on smaller lots, but has the advantage of being downtown and close to all amenities. There really isn't a need for a car in the city so much lies in walking distance, otherwise taxis are cheap.

The third category includes much that is priced between those two extremes, and this group includes new townhouses, many new or newer single family homes and older homes that have character, but not size or larger lots in heritage homes. Most people can easily find a home for their taste in this group in one to two hundred thousand U.S. dollar range and these homes represent all similar homes in other North American cities in two to five hundred thousand records.

Whatever your taste and budget, you will find a home in Summerside compared to what you now own for a fraction of the cost, not just to buy, but also in the form of taxes. Contact a local Summerside real estate, and you can be on their way to a better, more prosperous retirement About the Author:
