If you think about it, word-of-mouth advertising is wrapped in all kinds of marketing. That is because word-of-mouth recommendations can be caused by a part of your marketing strategy. If you have a funny television ad running, one person will tell another who will watch your ad. You have not explicitly ask that the word-of-mouth recommendation is it just naturally came from one of your other marketing.
Word-of-mouth marketing works well because people stake their own reputation when they make a recommendation. People have nothing to gain when giving a recommendation other than the appreciation of the person who listens.
You have to give people the confidence to recommend your company throughout time, without fail. Without doubt whether they make a good recommendation. So how do you do it?
Here are some ways you can foster word-of-mouth marketing:
Create out-of-this-world experiences for their customers that they did not expect. If you just slightly exceed customer expectations, nothing happens. You have to do something that one could appreciate or find a way to do something so different that the client remembers it and goes home and tells her friends and family.
Not depend on your sales staff to provide good customer service every time. All your employees will have good days and bad days. Some days they will not be in the mood to help the grumpy old client who is never happy. But if you have processes in place that all employees must follow when working with a customer, the mood of your staff is not something. If your employees are trained to always providing thorough product information, comparing your product with a competitor, it will look like the customer service staff is really trying to make a sale by providing valuable information when it really is the person who just does his job. Build the great customer service experience.
Nonverbal statements gather the most mouth-to-mouth marketing. Nonverbal statements can be kinetic, generous or architecturally. Here are some examples of each:
 • Kinetic - Kinetic refers to a dynamic and lively movement. An example of a kinetic statement is the throwing of fish at Pike Place Market in Seattle. (The Pike Place Market is as dynamic and inspirational to a whole book series was spawned based on principles learned from workers, called "Fish!".) Any form of general experience, that excites customers will earn word-of-mouth marketing.
 • Generous - If you're willing to be known as the Great, who gives a free cookie with each purchase, you're well on your way to becoming a word-of-mouth regularly. You can recoup the cost of the free cookies with slightly raise your prices on all your products or services. But being known for your generosity will do wonders for your word-of-mouth marketing and bring in more than enough business to require recover costs from your generous concept.
 • Architectural - Add something special to your building or facility which will have people talking. A guitar Store has a front door in the form of a guitar's sound hole which people have to come through get people to talk. A floor-to-ceiling aquarium in a restaurant, or any some form of architectural delight, works wonders for word-of-mouth marketing.
The biggest mistake you can make when you use word-of-mouth marketing is to promise it in your ads. Do not use href = "http://www.printplace.com/printing/brochures-inserts.aspx"> brochure printing pieces to tout your architecture. Do not use billboards to talk about how generous you are. Whatever you want your customers to say about you, you can not say about yourself. Otherwise, your customers' words to be worthless. And make people feel worthless is absolutely not the way to get people talking about you.
