Architecture Portland
Portland or Seattle? In terms of City life and Culture?

In terms of down town, city life and culture, arts, architecture, fashion, music…..
I know both are very similar in demographics, politics, weather, outdoor activities, and public services. And that’s why I want to know more about cultural and city life sides

They're both fairly similar in many ways.

Seattle went through it's vogue in the early 90's, and there was a big influx of people during the tech boom, which changed the character of the city. Portland was about 5-10 years behind in that sense, but it shocked me how much it's grown and how cosmopolitan it is now relative to when I was a kid!

Both cities have a thriving arts scene, but I think Portland is probably a bit more bohemian than Seattle is these days - Portland now is closer to how Seattle was in the early 90's.

Seattle has a much more "international" feel about its downtown area, and IMHO, feels a lot more like a bona-fide "big city." I found people in Portland to be easier to get along with and more communicative and engaging - people in Seattle seem to be more closed off (look up the "seattle freeze" for more on this).

Both cities are a pretty cool mix of frontier-era/industrial age brick buildings and wooden houses and bungalows, and modernist architecture, especially in the downtown centres. Both cities have a very thriving music scene, and while at the moment, the whole "indie" thing seems to be the name of the game, all types of music are represented in both cities. That said, Seattle has better punk, and Portland has better metal, IMHO...

Fashion? Neither city really contributes to the fashion scene. A lot of teenagers and younger college kids dress like how they think that the scene/emo kids in LA dress (I lived there for five years, am moving back in a month, and am familiar with the style trends down there). I found more people who dress like hippies or free spirits in Portland, and more who dressed like mountaineers or backpackers in Seattle.
