Common Object request Broker Architecture is an ‘Object Mode (It ensures that components developed in different programming languages and running on different platforms are opera table even across the network)’

(CORBA) is a standard defined by Object Management Group (OMG) that enables the software components written in multiple computer languages and running on multiple computers to work together.

CORBA is a mechanism in the software for normalizing the method-call semantics between application objects that reside either in the same address space (application) or remote address space.

While describing the structure of CORBA, there is a language for CORBA i.e. IDL (interface Definition Language) which specify the interfaces that object will present to the outside world. CORBA, then specify ‘Mapping’ from IDL to a specific implementation language like C++ or JAVA. A language mapping requests that the developer create some IDL code representing the interfaces to his objects.

As requests for objects across network occur at runtime, a mechanism for storing the description must be established so that the pertinent information about object and its location remain available when needed. All this significant and pertinent information is stored in ‘Interface Repository’.

At the time when client application invokes a method, CORBA uses the ‘Dynamic Invocation’ to obtain pertinent information about the desired method from Interface Repository and create request for structure with parameters to be passed to he object.

The request is then passed to the CORBA Core that is implementation specific part of network operating system that manages the requests.

In practice, application simply initiates the ORB and accesses the internal ‘Object Adapter’ which maintains the issues such as stores class and objects information, accepts, manages upcoming information, reference counting and performs a variety of other object management functions.

The Object Adapter is use to register instances of the ‘Generated Code Classes (which are the results of compiling the user IDL code)’.

Typically, a CORBA Implementation comes with a tool called ‘IDL Compiler’ which converts the user IDL code into some languages-specific generated code. This generated code is then compiled using a traditional compiler to create the linkable object files.
